Beidaihe is dotted with several scores of sea bathing grounds. Backed on to the mountains and facing the sea, Shanhaiguan Pass is strategically located, formed of a gate tower, watch tower, ramparts and walls built in the Ming Dynasty, and known as "the First Pass Under Heaven". Six kilometres east of Shanhaiguan, there is also the Shrine of Meng Jiangnu built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Other scenic attractions include Pigeon's Net, Tiger Rock, Lotus Seedpot Hill, Temple of the Goddess of Mercy and Old Dragon Head.
